Today we will see how to create artificial zoom burst effect in your Photograph. This is just another photography technique where you can make or fake your photo moving in motion. This is a abstract feel that your photo is moving, although its a still image. So, what we will see today is “Mastering Zoom Burst Photography : Zoom Burst Effect in Photoshop”.
Zoom Burst Effect while capturing photo is sometimes tricky, you do need a tripod which is compulsory, A zoom lens and a good subject. There could be times where you are not carrying your zoom lens or a tripod and suddenly you find a perfect subject for zoom burst. Should you click or not ?? Off course yes, you can give this effect later in your image with photoshop. And believe me its very quick and doesn’t eat your lot of time even if you are rookie like me. So lets start :
Zoom Burst Effect in Photoshop :
First of all, take a backup of your original image before we start so that the original image is intact with no harm. Now, Open your photo on which you want to get zoom burst effect.
Drag the background layer down on a new layer icon , it will create a new layer :
Go to Menu, Filter -> Blur -> Radial Blur. Select the blur method to Zoom and Quality to best.
Drag the amount of radial blur effect you want in your photo. If you want a high speed motion effect it should be around 70-80, otherwise you can keep it around 40. Its a personal choice, play and experiment.
And then press OK. ZOOOM
Boom, You should see this effect in your photo the moment you press OK button. But, wait. It does look weird right ? Complete photo looks in motion, so to make it little realistic we will create a layer mask (highlighted in blue) as below :
Select a brush tool ( highlighted below in left vertical bar ) and use your bracket to increase or decrease the size. You also need to make sure foreground is set to black ( press X ). Now paint this brush on your picture where you do not want this effect to take place.
And believe me you are done now. Export this image from File – Export -> Save for Web n Enjoy …

Cinemagraphy Photography is a technique in still photography or video recording where images is composed in a infinite loop of sequential frames. Here we will see how to Create Cinemagraph in Photoshop Tutorial and later How to Make Still Images Move. This is done in a such a way that complete image is still and some or other part is moving in way which created a seamless motion in a still photograph. Final output of cinemagraphy can be a video file format or a GIF file format which preserves the motion details.
What makes Cinemagraphy Photography unique is, it brings back certain part of the photo to life, thus making the completed photo close to realistic feel, attractive and sometimes even thought-provoking, just like the magical newspaper from the movie Harry Potter.
How to Make Cinemagraph from Video :
Lets starts on how to achieve that amazing effect in a normal video.

Shoot Your Video :
You can shoot your video with a good standard camera or even from a high end flagship phone. It should at least a full HD resolution video with ample natural light. Use a tripod in any case either you shooting from DSLR or a camera because we don’t want any kind of camera shake which can ruin everything and editing would be almost impossible.
Import and Trim :
Now import your video in photoshop and trim it to the length you want to keep in a moving picture. Trimming of a video would help and reduces the number of frames to process. Make sure the Timeline is visible in your window by going to Window > Timeline. You should automatically see the the Frame Timeline. In the Timeline, you can set the speed at which your video will play back.
Set your Timeline to repeat Forever, so that your GIF will loop infinitely. Now, play back the video in Photoshop and delete any frames you don’t need until you have just the exact clip you want to show.
Mask Creation in Photoshop :
So now that your video is playing and repeating like a long gif file. Select the very first frame in your video Timeline, and over in your Layers panel, duplicate the layer that is visible in that frame. Drag it up on top of all other layers, and make sure it is visible. This will be your layer mask. Lets say it “Static Mask Layer”. Right now, if you play your video, there should not be any movement at all, because every frame is being covered by the mask we created. We have frozen the video, and we will only unfreeze the part of video which we want to keep in motion. Hope till here everything is clear to you.
Playing with Mask :
In the Layer panel, select the mask layer and click on the “Add Layer Mask” icon ( A rectangle with a hole in middle). Make sure this new white mask layer is selected, and not the image layer. With the Brush Tool, we are going to begin painting over the areas we want to see movement. Here We are actually erasing areas that we want to see movement in, while keeping everything else totally static like a picture. Just make sure that do not use the Eraser tool, it should be a Brush tool. Now you are done with the toughest part. Congo.
Exporting your Image:
Make sure you go to file -> save for web. Here you will see many option but just make sure you select the file format as GIF not JPEG or any other. It should be strictly GIF. Export this image in your folder and you are done.

The above explained method is obviously the best way to achieve quality Cinemagraphy Image professionally. But this method could be time consuming and you need a good stabilized video to start with and Photoshop to work. It will take you some time to get going with this method, may be 2-4 hours if you are doing it first time. Cheap Macro Photography Techniques Without A Dedicated Lens:
Macro Photography is getting popular day by day among professional and rookie photographers. Its a stunning way to see the magnified world which you have never seen before. However, cost of a dedicated lens is way too high and often becomes a barrier to get the entry in this genre. Today we will discuss how to do Macro Photography on a budget and what all are the equipment required for Cheap Macro Photography Techniques without any fancy dedicated lens. If you want high quality professional shots, there’s simply no alternatives. However, if you’re just looking to get a taste of macro photography and want to have some fun then check for below options:
Macro Photography on a Budget options :
Extension tubes are the tube shape object which sits between lens optics and sensor. It increases the distance between your camera sensor and the lens optics. Because of which our camera can focus on closer subject to get the macro shot. It simply magnifies the image due to which subject looks much closer and magnified.
In this method, we attach the extension tube to camera body and then a lens to extension tubes like image below :
Unfortunately, extension tubes doesn’t have any focus mechanism so you will have to focus on subject manually which is quite tough work given the subject would be highly magnified. So, its always better to get a tripod for this type of photography and a shutter release button to remove any camera shake. You can also use a DIY diffuser made of plastic or cardboard to softens flash light when shutter click button releases.
You will need:
A Kit lens (18-55) or a prime lens 35mm or 50mm (preferably).
DIY flash diffuser (optional).
Our lens is mainly designed to take picture which is larger in real life like a tall building, here camera reduces the image of building to a small area called sensor. So, considering this if we reverse the lens then camera will magnifies the size of subjects on sensor which in turn called as Macro Photography.
Reverses rings is a camera mount adapter which allows you to reverse your lens to gets fit with a camera on a lens mount. This seems strange if you have never used this technique before because first time you will see lens pins which actually talks with camera are visible and internal glass elements also which moves in and out while focusing. You will also see aperture ring outside which control the opening of lens electronically. Its also not that easy specially handhold, it will require lot of practice and patience too while shooting macro with all this manual technique.
You will need:
A Kit lens (18-55) or a prime lens 35mm or 50mm (preferably).
While this technique is one of the best ways to get a taste of macro photography but it also exposes your lens to outer environment and dust can easily get inside it. So you better use this technique inside a closed environment like a room or use lens cap if you use outside.
You will loose the camera brain so how to Focus :
In reverse ring technique, the pins which communicates to camera are no more in contact with lens adapter so you are going to loose all good features of your camera like Auto-Focusing or changing aperture using rotate dial. So how you will achieve focusing and control aperture?
With the lens mounted backwards, your can focus on subject by moving the camera back and forth, which will be just inches from your subject, back and forth until the area you want sharp is in focus. For aperture you need to control aperture ring manually and check the exposure through viewfinder if subject is dark or bright. You need to move aperture ring which can be found on outer most area of your lens.
Control DOF – Depth of Field :
Its quite interesting and amazing how DOF gets affected with aperture. Since we are moving aperture manually so it can get suddenly dark at f/16.0 or too bright at f/1.8. Shooting like this can be very difficult at times for a couple of reasons. First, at large apertures like f/1.4 on a sunny day with a nice bright image in the viewfinder, you get a very narrow DOF. The smallest shift in your camera position changes what is in focus of subject.
Suppose your are trying to get a macro shot of flower. With a bigger opening of lens, you will get flower petals in focus while rest of the part is out of focus due to very narrow DOF. On the other hand if you will shoot with smallest of aperture like f/10.0 or f/16.0 then complete flower would be in focus but you will see same close up macro shot of petals in this picture. So it depends heavily on aperture specially if you are shooting handheld.
Stacked Lenses :
In this lens stacking technique, we usually use telephoto lens mounted in camera like a normal lens then taking a shorter focal length lens and attach them using a filter adapter. Shorter focal length lens mounts in a reversed position. When we are doing this, we are essentially using the reversed lens as a supplementary close-up lens. So using the above formula reversing a 100 mm lens would be a +10 Close-up.
You will need:
A Telephoto lens and one with prime lens.
This method is little bit more complicated than other two explained above. To stack two lenses you need a filter to filter adapter. These are also sold as male to male adapters or as macro-coupling rings. If you can’t find an adapter with the filter size you need, you can mate it with a step-up or step-down ring like this :
A problem with stacked lenses is vignetting or the darkening of the corners of the frame. This is why it is always a good idea to use a fast lens, like a 50 mm f/1.8 or 35 mm f/1.8 as your reversed lens.
Diopters are the easiest way to get into macro photography world. Its just a optics, a filter like attachment which magnifies your subject. They’re very easy to use, just screw one or more diopters onto your lens just like you would with any lens filter.
You will have to move in very close to your subject to achieve focus, and optical quality won’t always be as good as some of the other options presented here, but you might be very pleased with the results. Because they don’t cost much, are easy to use, and take up very little space in your camera bag, you might consider this for a try.

With not so much technological advancements in DSLR and how they are implemented with mirror tehchnologies, Mirrorless cameras are benefited from this and they are now much more improved than what they were 3-4 years back. Mirrorless Camera vs DSLR War :
The major difference between Mirrorless camera and DSLR is that latter fitted with internal mirror mechanism that reflects the image acquired by lens through phase-detection AF module on ceiling of camera before exiting through optical viewfinder. Once shutter is pressed and focus is locked, mirror flips up exposing sensor which captures the image. In mirrorless, there is no mirror so light passes through lens, camera and then finally on image sensor, on the other hand its advantages are, they’re usually smaller and lighter due to lack of mirror.
Limitations with Mirrorless Cameras :
Slow AF :
Earlier mirrorless cameras lacks phase detection AF system, means they had to use contrast-detect technology to acquire focus, which is slower than phase-detect AF found in DSLR. However, now a days many mirrorless cameras use on-sensor phase-detection AF, mostly in combination with contrast-detect AF to produce AF speeds to competes with DSLR.
Continuous Shooting Speed :
Since there’s no mechanical mirror means mirrorless cameras are generally capable of much higher continuous shooting speeds.
Lack of extensive library of lenses and accessories that DSLRs offer.
Viewfinders in Mirrorless : Most digital cameras do not have a viewfinder, instead you can preview the photo you’re about to take by looking at the LCD on the back of camera. Some digital cameras however do have built-in viewfinders, which have several advantages including no battery drain and the ability to use them in bright light.
Though there are few points in favour of DSLR currently but I afraid this gap will be closed soon too :
Support for Native Lenses : Since much of the technological differences are closed between DSLR and Mirrorless camera but still in terms of native lenses support, most consumer will find DSLR as the only answer. Currently DSLR supports all kind of lenses from prime to telephoto or even a budget lens. Most people are not ready to spend $1000 only on single lens. That’s practically not affordable. DSLR is still the way to go for beginners and Photography Enthusiast.
Quality vs Prices and Affordability : This is another point where DSLR are way ahead from Mirrorless. In an entry level Mirrorless camera price you could easily get good enough DSLR camera to get you started with at least one extra lens. It’s a huge gap still I feel and it will take time when Mirrorless camera gets inside the minds of Budget Oriented people who looks for great quality image without spending lot on high fancy stuffs.

Mirrorless Camera in Future :
The way mirrorless camera were in news in second half of 2017, it should not be a surprise if we see 2018 as a mirrorless year for camera industry. Many brands are already planning slew of Mirrorless camera releases in first half of 2018. The demand for these camera are also increasing quite rapidly due to its portable size. DSLR has to bear the cost of using old conventional mirror mechanism method still in 2018, there are no major breakthrough in DSLR world and this is where Mirrorless camera gets ahead now in terms of bridging gaps or even extending it beyond and far from DSLR.
On one hand companies like Panasonic, Sony or Olympus are already geared up for 2018 battle, the big brother Nikon and Canon needs to step up to keep competitive in market with latest trends before it gets too late for them.
